There were eight students on that bus - all of them attended this school Spectrum Academy-
Spectrum academy is an exceptional learning school or a school that helps students with specific learning disabilities.
The school bus was on its way from this school when the accident happened.
It's a call a school system never wants to receive...
One of their school busses has been in an accident with a semi.....
Olivia Brown with Metro Schools says, “Our information was that the bus struck the back of a truck and that we had nine students that were on board as well as driver who were all brought for- to be checked here at the hospital.”
According to police the driver of the semi-truck hit a truck in front of him just before the school bus - driven by Debra Nucomb slammed into the semi-truck.
The driver of the first tractor trailer drove off.
It was a frustrating scene for drivers as I-40 was shut down - but as drivers approached the scene they could see a bus was involved and that bus was carrying student.
According to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital 8 children and the driver of the bus were transported for medical care.
Dr. Thomas Abramo with Vanderbilt Children's Hospital says, “A lot of them have injuries to their arms and their legs one child has an injury to his mouth but none of them have significant loss of conscious - or any loss of conscious or any head injury.”
Metro Schools says their first priority is making sure the children and bus driver are safe and then figuring out what caused the accident.
Olivia Brown says, “We'll have safety investigators we'll have an investigative team that will look at the reports of the accident who will look at the police reports and will talk with the driver and find out what happened and will do a report on our end as well as whatever we receive from the police investigation.”
The hospital says they will take x-rays to see if there are fractures before the children go home.
Again the children and the bus driver are expected to be ok- we did contact Spectrum Academy for comment.
They did not return our messages.

Updated conservatorship statute effective July 1
May 21, 2013 12:49 GMT
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Gov. Bill Haslam has signed into law revisions to the state conservatorship statute.
The law allows the court to appoint a conservator to manage the assets of a person a judge finds unable to handle his or her own affairs.
State Rep. Andrew Farmer, a Sevierville Republican, told The Tennessean (http://tnne.ws/1183hjy ) the intent of the bill he sponsored in the House is to make sure people aren't being taken advantage of.
The bill sprang from a series of hearings statewide by the Tennessee Bar Association. They revealed there were no uniform procedures for placing a person's assets under a conservator on an emergency basis.
The changes take effect July 1.
