WBFF Fox 45 :: Unique Display at Cheekwood Guaranteed to Put You in the Holiday Spirit
If you're looking for a fun and different way to get in the holiday spirit, head over to Cheekwood. The botanical gardens has a special holiday display featuring several different themed Christmas trees. The holiday season is in full swing with a storybook Christmas theme. This year, they are featuring 7 Christmas trees in the mansion, each one bringing to life a different classic holiday tale, including the Night Before Christmas and Frosty the Snowman.

"This tree is inspired by the Nutcracker and it was designed by Jim Knestrick of Knestrick by Design and he went into great detail," says Cheekwood Director of Education and Programs Hillary Steinwinder. "You can see we have the characters from the Nutcracker here, the ballet slippers, some of the sheet music from the ballet is in there as well."

The Christmas trees aren't the only exciting thing at Cheekwood this year. Santa came to town in his big red sleigh, and he brought 2 of his reindeer friends with him.

"The kids get to come see the reindeer, hold antlers, and we talk a lot about what makes reindeer special," says Jill Swenson.

For example, every year they drop their antlers and grow a brand new set. 5 year old Hudson decked out in his Spiderman costume had a blast, and he is ready to tell Santa what he wants for Christmas this year.

"Um," says Hudson. "Well, I do want some Legos."

Right across from the reindeer you'll find Santa's workshop, complete with his good list. You can visit Santa at Cheekwood every Saturday between Thanksgiving and Christmas, beginning this Saturday at Noon, then he heads back to the North Pole to prep for the big night. Re-opening of welcome center on I-24 delayed
May 22, 2013 13:07 GMT

OAK GROVE, Ky. (AP) -- An interstate welcome center in southern Kentucky near the Tennessee line won't reopen Wednesday for the Memorial Day holiday as planned.

The welcome center is for westbound Interstate 24 travelers and is near Oak Grove in Christian County and Fort Campbell.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says storms in the area delayed paving work on the welcome center's approaches. A statement on Wednesday said it was unclear when the facility would reopen.

The rest area is at mile point 93.
