Cycle for MS / Shelbyville: Stacy Case A Franklin native was back home this week, but she couldn't stay for Thanksgiving. She's on a mission to raise money for a cause near and dear to her heart. She's doing it one piece of pavement at a time and finding reasons to be thankful along the way.
Side by side with semis....
AnnaMary Richmond says: "We are biking across this wonderful country."
The trio from Jackson Hole, Wyoming started October 4th in San Diego.
AnnaMary Richmond says,"My father passed away a little over 2 years ago and he had MS for 15 years. His name was David Richmond. His balance was affected, . his vision. He was a fighter pilot and after he was diagnosed with MS. He couldn't fly anymore.
Riding for a cure for MS is what keeps AnnaMary, Sallie and Steve going. His grandma also has the disease.
AnnaMary Richmond says, "We had a plan when we started, but it has
been more of a day to day routing adventure. We have tried to stay off
big interstates. We'll get to a town and find a computer and map the next few days. We'll hit dirt roads that have no end so we'll turn around. We've walked our bikes many times."
23 hundred miles so far... Just 700 left to go. And so much to be grateful for.
Sallie Marcant says, "When we've had a problem there's been a solution. Someone has been
there to offer a helping hand offer us a backyard to sleep in or water
anything we need."
The BGA grad and her friends have slept on and under everything you could imagine, and met many others who understand their drive.
AnnaMary Richmond adds, "At gas stations or RV parks or random places
people will come up to us and say my brother has MS or my son. It
affects so many more people than you really know. We want to get the
awareness out there and fnd a cure."
400 thousand Americans have it..
AnnaMary says, "."Nat:We really have been blessed. There is so
much focus on all the bad things going on in the world, but there are
wonderful people out there and we have encountered many, many.
So far, the trio has raised more than 17 thousand dollars for M.S. Research. They'll end their journey in Charleston, South Carolina then rent a car and drive to Washington, DC to Arlington National Cemetery where AnnaMary's father is buried. Houston brother will be his own attorney in court
June 18, 2013 13:02 GMT
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Roane County man will face federal gun violation charges next month without an attorney.
The Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/17VlXpM ) reported Rocky Joe Houston will represent himself on a charge of possession of a gun by a felon.
The charge came after Houston earlier represented himself in state court on charges stemming from a police chase. He was convicted of evading arrest and reckless endangerment.
Houston and his brother, Leon Houston, were tried, but not convicted, in the 2006 shooting deaths of a Roane County deputy and his ride-along companion.
In federal court, Rocky Joe Houston is claiming the officer who charged him with the felony had no legal authority.
