WBFF Fox 45 :: Compromise in Congress isn't Sitting Well with Everyone
"I believe that there's further unnecessary spending in government that we can eliminate," says President Obama. "We can't simply cut our way to prosperity."

Compromise in Congress. A deal to pull the country back from the fiscal cliff isn't sitting well with everyone. The House passed the Senate bill around 10pm last night. Many Republicans say there's a lack of spending cuts.

"There's a lot not to like about the bill, it doesn't have spending cuts, it doesn't show any kind of fiscal restraint, it continues to give some of these special interest tax breaks that we've said need to be off the books," says Congressman Marsha Blackburn (R-TN 7th District).

Marsha Blackburn wasn't the only Tennessee lawmaker to vote against last night's bill. Congressmen Jim Cooper (D-TN 5th District), Diane Black (R-TN 6th District) and Scott Desjarlais (R-TN 4th District) voted no. Tennessee Senators Lamar Alexander (R-TN) and Bob Corker (R-TN) passed the bill.Compromise in Congress isn't Sitting Well with Everyone

Solar panels that obscure school might be moved
May 24, 2013 13:13 GMT

ROGERSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A wall of solar panels in front of a Surgoinsville school might be moved out back.

The panels are part of an ambitious project under which solar collection panels have been installed at 20 Hawkins County school facilities to cut utility costs and sell back power to TVA.

But the Kingsport Times-News (http://bit.ly/18burcf ) reported the wall of panels at Surgoinsville Middle School has some people worried about school security and others upset at what they see as an eyesore.

The panels are 7 feet high and stretch the length of a football field. They obscure viewing the school.

At a school board work session Thursday, board members talked about moving the array. It can't be voted on until the regular board meeting on June 4.
