In tonight's Saving You Money, how many times have you wanted to call an attorney for help, but didn't think you could afford it? There are 100 chances---- that's right 110 for you to get the help you need for free.
At a recent legal aid clinic, the room is full. Wall to wall they wait for a chance to plead their case.
Larry Grove is hoping to get some legal help after someone talked him into buying what he thought was a $35 plaque. "I didn't know the plaque would lead to being swindled out of $420 and that's what happened to me." The Madison man is getting help from attorney John Farringer with the firm Sherrard and Roe. Farringer is donating his time. Grove isn't paying a dime.
Farringer explains why he does it, "It's something all lawyers should do and it's something the Supreme Court emphasizes we do and for me personally you get a lot out of these experiences when you can help someone."
This was the first legal clinic of the New Year. There are 109 more to come. Farringer explains, "If it looks like it's a pretty big deal and they need long term representation either you at this clinic can take it or put it back in the pile at the pro bono clinic and they will find a lawyer in town who will volunteer to take it."
The attorneys don't handle criminal cases, but will hear any civil matter from bankruptcy, to landlord tenant disputes to family law.
The free legal clinics are sponsored by the Legal Aid Society and the Nashville Bar Association. They're held at various locations across Nashville and in the suburbs. For a link to the free clinics, go to Fox17.com and click on Foxlinks.

Former Dyer County constable sentenced to prison
May 23, 2013 12:50 GMT
DYERSBURG, Tenn. (AP) -- Former Dyer County Constable Derick Shane Hundley has been sentenced to 25 years in federal prison.
The State Gazette (http://bit.ly/14UHydd ) reported Hundley was sentenced Monday after earlier entering a guilty plea to enticement of a minor through electronic means. The government dropped a child pornography count.
Prosecutors said Hundley, who is 30, used a cellphone to try to entice a minor female to have sex with him. Police arrested Hundley last July and found an external hard drive that contained numerous images of minors involved in sex. He resigned from the constable post he had won in 2010 after his arrest.
