WBFF Fox 45 :: Clarksville Mother in Custody for Child Neglect
Police in Clarksville arrested the mother of two young girls after they were found wandering their apartment complex without supervision. The girls ages two and five were found walking around the complex late last night. A neighbor spotted the children on his home from work and stayed with them until police were able to arrive. Officers located the kids home after talking with the oldest child. When they arrived at the apartment officers found clothing and trash all over the floor with cockroaches climbing the walls, noted a statement issued by Clarksville Police. Officers also stated the apartment smelled of urine although no animals lived there. When asked about the incident Candance Sellner, the children’s mother, told police she was unaware her kids had left the apartment and that she had been working on the computer with head phones on.

The Department of Children’s Services also responded and has opened an investigation.

Audit finds $51K missing at Hamblen animal shelter
May 22, 2013 19:59 GMT

MORRISTOWN, Tenn. (AP) -- An audit by the state comptroller's office has found that more than $51,000 in animal adoption fees and donations for the Morristown-Hamblen Humane Society was not deposited into the facility's bank account.

According to the audit, an investigation was requested by the Hamblen County mayor after a humane society employee discovered altered receipts.

The audit says a former employee who was questioned by management admitted to backdating one receipt to "borrow" $120. The employee returned the $120 and was terminated. The employee refused to meet with auditors.

Morristown-Hamblen Humane Society Board Chair Gean Ann Sing said in a response to auditors that the humane society now utilizes more than one employee for handling deposits. The board also has agreed to obtain yearly audits.
