WBFF Fox 45 :: Changes Could be on the Way for DCS
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Governor Bill Haslam is defending a state agency that's been under fire lately for not releasing information about children to the public. Last week a judge ordered the Department of Children's Services to release certain records the agency has been withholding. Those files contain information about children who died after the agency investigated reports of abuse or neglect. Haslam says the DCS felt it had to withhold some of that information for legal reasons.

"There's been a lot of heat on DCS for something that wasn't just their lawyer," says Governor Haslam. "It was the Attorney General, who we don't hire, who represents the state, who said we don't think you can give that either. We know we will do better in making sure we're protecting the interests of children in Tennessee."

Haslam is proposing changes for DCS this week to improve the agency, including removing 30 administrators and hiring 62 new caseworkers.Changes Could be on the Way for DCS

May 25, 2013 20:14 GMT

SMYRNA, Tenn. (AP) -- Authorities say a body has been found in Percy Priest Lake in Middle Tennessee.

WSMV-TV (http://bit.ly/16gYKys) reports officials with Metro Police, the Office of Emergency Management and Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency were at the scene Saturday at Hole In The Wall Island. The body was reported to authorities about 11 a.m.

TWRA officials say they believe the deceased man is a boater who disappeared in the lake two weeks ago.

Police said the agencies coordinated with each other to get a boat in the water and recover the body.
