Monday night the Governor offered a plan to spend and extra $6.7 million on the agency and reorganize it by cutting 30 administrators and adding 62 case managers.
"The proposal the Governor has made are so far so good," said State Representative Sherry Jones. "We do need more caseworkers. There are too many cases in the DCS now and they're trying to force those case managers to rush them through, rush them through and you just can't do that if you're gonna do a good job. You really need to investigate."
Jones has been a frequent critic of DCS.
She told Fox 17 News she does wish Haslam had taken his proposal a step further and ordered a top down review and changes.
The department has come under fire recently for the number of children who've died after the agency investigated reports of abuse or neglect.
One mother who's asked that her identity be hidden told Fox 17 News she saw signs of trouble when she dealt with the agency as a foster mother.
"Some of the things I saw was trying to ease the caseload as opposed to doing what was best for the children."
She says adding more case workers will help but only if they're case workers that care about children.

Miss. chooses new firm to run Woodville prison
May 18, 2013 20:50 GMT
WOODVILLE, Miss. (AP) -- Mississippi officials have picked a new company to run the Wilkinson County Correctional Facility.
Utah-based Management and Training Corp. announced Friday that the Mississippi Department of Corrections has chosen it to run the 1,000-bed prison starting July 1, the Natchez Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/10MvOGv).
Corrections Corporation of America, based in Nashville, Tenn., had run the prison since 1998. MTC says it will keep "the vast majority" of employees.
MTC will get a five-year contract to run the prison with two one-year options. Last year, officials chose MTC to take over East Mississippi Correctional Facility, the Walnut Grove Correctional Facility and the Marshall County Correctional Facility from the GEO Group. MTC won 10-year contracts for each.
CCA still runs the Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility and the Adams County Correctional Center in Mississippi.
