WBFF Fox 45 :: EF-2 Tornado Destroys Several Homes in Tiny Community of Coble
COBLE, Tenn. - The tornado that came through Hickman County not only damaged a home, it also knocked over a big camper. 24 homes saw damage in Coble. Many of those homes lost roofs and major window damage is a common sight. Judy Orman's home was among them. She says the tornado arrived with no warning, leaving her scrambling to take cover with her grandson. Because the power went out, the tornado sirens didn't go off, but somehow no one was seriously injured.

"Today is my birthday," says Orman. "It's a birthday present nobody got seriously hurt. Nobody got killed. It's a blessing."

Another blessing: lots of people showed up with chainsaws to help clean up and local authorities have brought in inmates to help too. Bottom line, there's going to be a lot of cleanup to do Thursday. The hope is that power will be completely restored by then.

Updated conservatorship statute effective July 1
May 21, 2013 12:49 GMT

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Gov. Bill Haslam has signed into law revisions to the state conservatorship statute.

The law allows the court to appoint a conservator to manage the assets of a person a judge finds unable to handle his or her own affairs.

State Rep. Andrew Farmer, a Sevierville Republican, told The Tennessean (http://tnne.ws/1183hjy ) the intent of the bill he sponsored in the House is to make sure people aren't being taken advantage of.

The bill sprang from a series of hearings statewide by the Tennessee Bar Association. They revealed there were no uniform procedures for placing a person's assets under a conservator on an emergency basis.

The changes take effect July 1.
