WBFF Fox 45 :: Man Arrested for Trying to Run Over an Officer and a Woman in La Vergne Mobile Home Park
An officer opened fire on a vehicle in La Vergne after the man behind the wheel tried to run him down.
A domestic call went out just before 5 p.m. at the Cedar Glenn Mobile Home Park on Sue Ellen Drive, according to police. A woman was able to escape a man whom she says was assaulting her.
The male suspect fled the scene, but police caught up with him on Murfreesboro Road. A pursuit led back to the trailer park where an officer was talking with the female.
The man threatened to hurt police and the woman and approached them with the vehicle. The officer opened fire in fear for his safety and was able to stop the vehicle from hitting them.
It's not clear how, but police say that the man exited the vehicle and attempted suicide. He was taken into custody and transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center for self-inflicted injuries.
No names have been released at this time.

2 appellate court judges are stepping down
May 24, 2013 21:29 GMT

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Two Tennessee appellate court judges have notified Gov. Bill Haslam that they will not run for another term on the bench in the August 2014 retention election.

Patricia J. Cottrell, a judge on the Court of Appeals, and Joseph M. Tipton, who sits on the Court of Criminal Appeals bench, will both leave after September of next year.

The announcements come after the state legislature left Tennessee without a way to replace judges who step down or die when a commission expires at the end of next month.

Members of the soon-to-be-defunct Judicial Nominating Commission will make recommendations for replacements to give to Haslam before the panel expires. Haslam will appoint the replacements from those recommendations.
