A Nashville man is behind bars this morning charged with DUI for at least the ninth time.
According to court records, Anthony McGowan, 58, was stopped by police driving out of the Household Pawn on Dickerson Road Tuesday afternoon with expired tags. Police noticed that McGowan had alcohol on his breath and slurred speech. McGowan admitted to officers that he had several drinks this morning and that he had just dropped a child off at school.
A computer check of McGowan showed that he was driving on a suspended license, and a check of his criminal history found that he had eight previous DUI convictions going back to 1989. He also has five previous offenses for being a habitual motor vehicle offender.
McGowan is in the Davidson County Jail on $70,000.

Houston brother will be his own attorney in court

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Roane County man will face federal gun violation charges next month without an attorney.
The Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/17VlXpM ) reported Rocky Joe Houston will represent himself on a charge of possession of a gun by a felon.
The charge came after Houston earlier represented himself in state court on charges stemming from a police chase. He was convicted of evading arrest and reckless endangerment.
Houston and his brother, Leon Houston, were tried, but not convicted, in the 2006 shooting deaths of a Roane County deputy and his ride-along companion.
In federal court, Rocky Joe Houston is claiming the officer who charged him with the felony had no legal authority.
