"Wolverton Mountain" is a staple on classic country music compilations on late night tv. Early Thursday morning Claude King, the man who took it to the top of the charts in 1962, passed away at his home near Shreveport, Louisiana. King joined the famous Louisiana Hayride radio show in the late 1940's but didn't become a nationwide hit until the early 1960's. Claude King recorded for Columbia Records in Nashville from 1961 to 1973. During that time he had 30-chart records and placed six hits in the top ten. King might have been a bigger star had he lived in Nashville but he chose to live and raise his family where he grew up just outside Shreveport. King turned 90 last month. We'll have video of one of Claude's last performances Thursday night on Fox 17 News at 9.

Updated conservatorship statute effective July 1
May 21, 2013 12:49 GMT
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Gov. Bill Haslam has signed into law revisions to the state conservatorship statute.
The law allows the court to appoint a conservator to manage the assets of a person a judge finds unable to handle his or her own affairs.
State Rep. Andrew Farmer, a Sevierville Republican, told The Tennessean (http://tnne.ws/1183hjy ) the intent of the bill he sponsored in the House is to make sure people aren't being taken advantage of.
The bill sprang from a series of hearings statewide by the Tennessee Bar Association. They revealed there were no uniform procedures for placing a person's assets under a conservator on an emergency basis.
The changes take effect July 1.
