MANCHESTER, Tenn. - New developments in a Coffee County murder case. A suspect is captured less than 5 miles away from the Mexican border by U.S. Marshals. This is the face of 41 year old murder suspect Troy Lynn King. U.S. Marshals cuffed him near Imperial Beach, California, less than 5 miles away from the U.S./Mexico border.
"We believe that was the reason for his move to the San Diego area, to avoid prosecution and to gain flight into Mexico," says Coffee County Sheriff's Department Captain Frank Watkins.
King was arrested March 6 and is charged with First Degree Murder in the death of Thomas Colucci, who was shot and killed inside a home in Coffee County on Springs Road November 13. The Sheriff's Office says Colucci's fiance Connie King was also romantically involved with the suspected gunman at the time of the shooting. Today the home sits empty, but written messages like "justice for Tommy" remain, written by friends like Crew One General Manager Tripp Hunt.
"He was somebody you wanted to be around," says Hunt. "He was funny. He was full of life."
Friends say Colucci was a 9 year veteran of the music industry, and news of King's arrest in California brought with it a highly anticipated sense of relief.
"A lot of folks are going to be very happy once this breaks," says Hunt.
Hunt worked with Colucci at Crew One Production in Nashville. When he wasn't setting up stages in Music City, Colucci toured the country as Head of Security for Rockers 311. He was also the Stage Manager for Jo Dee Messina. The day after his death, the country singer wrote on her blog "with funeral services coming up, tears that will be shed and with the somberness that will loom in the air...". Hunt says it was a big loss for the music industry, but even more so those that knew him best.
"We lost a good person but there's 2 boys that lost a great dad and that's what really hurts," says Hunt.
King is awaiting extradition back to Middle Tennessee. Investigators say they do expect more arrests in this case.

Man pleads guilty to Memphis officer's murder

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- A former death row inmate is set to be released from prison after he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder of a Memphis police officer.
Shelby County District Attorney Amy Weirich said Tuesday that she has accepted Timothy McKinney's guilty plea.
McKinney was convicted of first-degree murder for the fatal shooting of Officer Don Williams. The officer was killed outside a comedy club in December 1997.
McKinney appealed and won a new trial, which ended with a deadlocked jury. A third trial earlier this year also ended in a hung jury.
The Commercial Appeal reports that McKinney was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Since he's already served more than 15 years -- including 11 on death row -- McKinney will be released this week.
Williams' family opposed the settlement.
