WBFF Fox 45 :: Beer Industry Now Ready to Support the Sale of Wine in Grocery Stores - Justin McFarland
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - There's already a bill that would allow the sale of wine in Tennessee grocery stores and markets, but now some want strong beer on that list as well. This is a change of heart by the Tennessee Malt Beverage Association. They have long opposed the wine in grocery stores bill until now. The Board will support the bill if there is a provision allowing groceries to seel high-gravity beer, which has a higher alcohol content. A change like this would go along with the support for local cities and counties that already allow liquor sales to hold referendums on whether to allow supermarket wine sales. The bill is still opposed by the Liquor Wholesalers and Retailers. They claim it would put them out of business.

Houston brother will be his own attorney in court
June 18, 2013 13:02 GMT

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Roane County man will face federal gun violation charges next month without an attorney.

The Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/17VlXpM ) reported Rocky Joe Houston will represent himself on a charge of possession of a gun by a felon.

The charge came after Houston earlier represented himself in state court on charges stemming from a police chase. He was convicted of evading arrest and reckless endangerment.

Houston and his brother, Leon Houston, were tried, but not convicted, in the 2006 shooting deaths of a Roane County deputy and his ride-along companion.

In federal court, Rocky Joe Houston is claiming the officer who charged him with the felony had no legal authority.
