WBFF Fox 45 :: DCS Commissioner Faces Tough Questions from Lawmakers
More though questions for the Department of Children’s Services. After a month on the job new DCS Commissioner Jim Henry testifies before the House Government Operations Committee.

Lawmakers upset over a disturbing number of deaths involving children in state custody want to know what's changed on commissioner Henry's watch.

Henry says he is still putting his management team in place but this afternoon he told lawmakers he has already implemented an important new protocol.

"I've requested that for every death of kids in custody that I get a call within the hour. Tell me a brief description, then as the investigation develops they'll get back to me and talk about exactly what happened," said Jim Henry.

There have been six deaths involving children in DCS custody since the beginning of the year. Henry says four were natural causes and the fifth the result of a car crash.DCS Commissioner Faces Tough Questions from Lawmakers

Solar panels that obscure school might be moved
May 24, 2013 13:13 GMT

ROGERSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A wall of solar panels in front of a Surgoinsville school might be moved out back.

The panels are part of an ambitious project under which solar collection panels have been installed at 20 Hawkins County school facilities to cut utility costs and sell back power to TVA.

But the Kingsport Times-News (http://bit.ly/18burcf ) reported the wall of panels at Surgoinsville Middle School has some people worried about school security and others upset at what they see as an eyesore.

The panels are 7 feet high and stretch the length of a football field. They obscure viewing the school.

At a school board work session Thursday, board members talked about moving the array. It can't be voted on until the regular board meeting on June 4.
