WBFF Fox 45 :: EXCLUSIVE: Detective in Lindsey Lowe Case Speaks Out - Erika Lathon
GALLATIN, Tenn. - Detective Steve Malach says he didn't know what to expect when he spoke to Lindsey Lowe, but he knew he had to find out how those babies died. Lindsey Lowe never took the stand, but jurors heard her confess to smothering her newborn twins. Her videotaped interview with Detective Malach became key evidence.

"There was no suspicion," says Detective Malach. "We knew we had a baby that was deceased and we needed to find out what happened. Everything was open."

During the trial, attorneys went after Malach, saying he bullied and coerced Lowe into a confession.

"I didn't take it personally," says Detective Malach. "I didn't need the vindication. What everyone saw on that interview was me having compassion and trying to figure out what happened."

Detective Malach says he never saw Lowe as a victim. He was just focused on getting to the truth.

"I don't see her as a victim, absolutely not," says Detective Malach. "It's a sad story. She comes from a good family, but there are 2 babies and that's where the victims lie, and that's where we have to go with."

Lindsey Lowe is being kept in solitary confinement in the Sumner County jail until she's moved to the state prison for women.

Houston brother will be his own attorney in court
June 18, 2013 13:02 GMT

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Roane County man will face federal gun violation charges next month without an attorney.

The Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/17VlXpM ) reported Rocky Joe Houston will represent himself on a charge of possession of a gun by a felon.

The charge came after Houston earlier represented himself in state court on charges stemming from a police chase. He was convicted of evading arrest and reckless endangerment.

Houston and his brother, Leon Houston, were tried, but not convicted, in the 2006 shooting deaths of a Roane County deputy and his ride-along companion.

In federal court, Rocky Joe Houston is claiming the officer who charged him with the felony had no legal authority.
