It's a rare treat to experience both in winter with his dog Garth Brooks.
"Soaking up the sun man," said Herrell.
Thanks to some unseasonably warm weather, Herrell was even able to do the unthinkable Friday.
He turned his heat off.
"Oh yeah it's off," said Herrell.
It would appear he has plenty of company.
so many people are turning off their heat it's noticeable with Nashville Electric Service records.
On Monday, when it was below 30 degrees, the peak energy usage was 1,854 megawatts.
That number dropped by 600 megawatts Friday.
"There is a huge drop in energy usage. We're talking 10 times what it would cost to power Vanderbilt," said NES spokesperson Laurie Parker.
Parker says the key for all of us is the fact this nice weather will stick around for five days this week.
"If we have several days of way above normal temps like today 70 degrees is very unusual you're gonna see a difference because your heating costs are such a big chunk of what you pay," said Parker.
Which may be even better than an afternoon on the porch for Herrell.
His last heating bill wasn't cheap.
"I'm burnt out on cold. I lived in Chicago for 8 years and we got plenty of cold weather there," said Herrell.

May 19, 2013 18:44 GMT
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Powerball ticket sold in Tennessee barely missed winning a share of an estimated $590.5 million prize. But the ticket has a nice consolation prize worth $1 million.
Officials say the Powerball ticket worth $1 million was sold in Chattanooga.
There's no word yet on who won.
A Powerball ticket sold at a supermarket in Zephyrhills, Fla., matched all six numbers selected Saturday night for the estimated $590.5 million prize. It's the highest Powerball jackpot in history.
The winning numbers were 10, 13, 14, 22 and 52, with a Powerball of 11.
