WBFF Fox 45 :: WASTE WATCH: Lawmaker Sounds Off on TSA's New Wardrobe
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A revelation about expenditures at the Department of Homeland Security. U.S. Representative Marsha Blackburn (R-TN 7th District) tells us that just days before the sequestered cuts, Homeland Security ordered all new uniforms for TSA staffers costing millions.

"At the very end of February before sequestration kicked in on March 1, they spend $50 million on new uniforms. $50 million," says Rep. Blackburn. "If you're in the U.S. Marines, you have a lifetime uniform allowance of $400. You know what the TSA uniform allowance turns out to be? $466 per year. Now, certainly TSA could wear their uniforms a 2nd year."

While not addressing the issue of new uniforms, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano did address the traveling public.

"We are already seeing the effects at some of the ports of entry," says Napolitano. "The big airports for example, some of them had very long lines this weekend."

The Secretary says over 1000 TSA positions will go unfilled because of the budget cuts. We want to hear from you too. If you know about waste, submit your ideas for WASTE WATCH stories at Fox17.com under WASTE WATCH.

Houston brother will be his own attorney in court
June 18, 2013 13:02 GMT

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Roane County man will face federal gun violation charges next month without an attorney.

The Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/17VlXpM ) reported Rocky Joe Houston will represent himself on a charge of possession of a gun by a felon.

The charge came after Houston earlier represented himself in state court on charges stemming from a police chase. He was convicted of evading arrest and reckless endangerment.

Houston and his brother, Leon Houston, were tried, but not convicted, in the 2006 shooting deaths of a Roane County deputy and his ride-along companion.

In federal court, Rocky Joe Houston is claiming the officer who charged him with the felony had no legal authority.
