A Metro police officer puts bravery into action.

Faye Denson is back on duty less than four months after being shot.

Officer Faye Denson drives each day on the familiar streets of East Nashville, but there's one spot she hasn't visited since early November.

On November 5th Denson was chasing a suspect near Stockell Street.
    
Police say the 18 year old started shooting, and Denson was hit in the right leg.

"It happened to be somebody who had a gun, and he just didn't want to get arrested," says Officer Faye Denson.

After Officer Denson was shot in an alley she underwent three months of intense physical therapy on her leg so she could come back to work.
 
Denson has been back for less than two weeks and she hasn't missed a beat.
   
Last Thursday she even chased a suspect on foot.  He was captured.

"You just go right back to your training, and it all just kicked in again," says Officer Denson.

East Precinct Commander David Imhof  is glad to welcome Denson back. He says Denson's attitude makes her a terrific officer.

"There is a level of bravery that you can't put into words, because it's not something you talk about everyday, it's not something that you dwell upon everyday, but it's just something that you do," says Commander David Imhof.
     
Denson still has the bullet in her right thigh, which serves as a reminder of her dangerous job.

"We know that in this community there are drugs, there are guns out here, and we just want to get them off the street," says Denson.

But make no mistake, Denson is still on patrol.  She is ready to respond the next time duty calls.

Faye Denson says she has been overwhelmed by the kindness from her fellow officers and community members.
  
She has even been recognized a few times by people who remember seeing her picture on the news.
