Controversial Tea Party Convention Kicks Off
Hundreds of people are in Nashville this weekend for a controversial event that's drawing attention from all over the country.
The National Tea Party Convention is in town and those attending have their own ideas of how to change America.
Fox17's Justin McFarland joins us live from the Gaylord Opryland Hotel with more on this story.
Around 600 people are registered to come out this weekend.
The Keynote Speaker is former Republican Vice Presidential Nominee Sarah Palin.
The 3-day convention has a $549 admission fee.
The Tea Party movement was born last year out of frustration with big government and excessive spending.
Some have criticized this convention for trying to make a profit, and becoming too close to the Republican Party.
Some speakers, like Tennessee Congressman Marsha Blackburn, even pulled out of the event.
While some may question the event, this crowd clearly believes in the cause.
Nancy Hiser says "I think it's really about two things and that's limiting the size of the government and related to that balancing our budgets and I think that's what the Tea Party is about. I think people make it more complicated than that."
