Super Bowl Abortion Ad Controversy - Erika Kurre
Controversy swirls as the Super Bowl approaches. This time it's not about the game or the half-time show. Many are talking about an ad, featuring University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow and his mother who chose life instead of an abortion. The ad has not yet been released to viewers, but already it's become a hot topic of debate.
West Nashville resident Nate Dickinson says, "I don't really understand why it's so popular."
Hundreds of thousands of people across the country are already talking about the Focus on the Family commercial.
Jim Daily, President and CEO of Focus on the Family says, "I’m the only one here that has seen the ad and I’ll just say that I think everyone will appreciate the ad."
It will air the first time Sunday night. It shares the personal story of Pam Tebow who was advised to consider abortion when she was pregnant with Tim, due to possible birth defects.
She chose life and gave birth to a healthy baby boy.
Hope Clinic for Women CEO Renee Rizzo says, "I’m actually really trusting that it's going to be more of an inspirational message than a polarizing message."
The Nashville Hope Clinic for Women helps hundreds of pregnant women a year cope with their choice of parenting, adoption or abortion.
They stand between the pro-life and pro-choice arguments, saying it's not a cut and dry issue.
Rizzo says, "I think we think that one decision is an easier one than the other. And I think they're all hard."
Rizzo hopes there's not a strong political message in the ad.
She's looking forward to an inspirational message encouraging informed, thoughtful decision-making.
Others find it inappropriate that a player or the game should be the platform for such a topic.
Florida resident Cory Cheek says, "Just play football and just focus on the game."
Iowa resident Ed Feyen says, "We see enough of that from day to day. I'd rather see something hilarious and funny in the ads-- and just entertaining."
Abortion rights group Planned Parenthood has posted a counter ad in response to this, which will also air during the super bowl.Super Bowl Abortion Ad Controversy - Erika Kurre
