Convention Center Demolition Begins-Sky Arnold
It's two down, eight to go for the Music City Center.
Monday morning, demolition crews demolished two buildings on the future convention center site south of Broadway.
"This is such an exciting day. This is the beginning day of getting the site ready," said Convention Center Authority Chair Marty Dickens.
One of the buildings used to house the Labor Source of Tennessee.
Owner Mark Dodson says it was difficult to watch initially because helped design and build it in 1985.
"When they first hit it that was kind of bad but now it doesn't look like my building it looks like they're tearing up anything you know," said Dodson.
There is one building that's still in the way.
The owners of the Musicians Hall of Fame haven't come to an agreement with Metro.
Joe Chambers says he supports the convention center project, but believes his building is worth much more than Metro has been willing to pay.
"All that we're asked is that we be compensated fairly and that would mean we could replace what we have," said Chambers.
The Convention Center Authority hopes to have that issue resolved by the end of the week.
The Musicians Hall of Fame has an eminent domain hearing this Friday.
Once crews are finished demolishing all ten buildings they'll start working on leveling the land.Convention Center Demolition Begins-Sky Arnold
