Police Department Devastated by Loss-Cindy Carter
28-year old Corporal Jeremy Mclaren is remembered fondly for his disarming smile. Spring Hill Police Chief, John Smith says, "When he walked into the office, he always had a grin on his face... and a laugh that was just as infectious as anything you can possibly imagine." However, Smith also says behind that smile was a serious officer who was responsible and motivated.. a born leader.
Smith says, "Just a little mild grooming was going to get him very far. Definitely led from the front. An example to his peers and troops and even let the command staff know that maybe we need to re-look at something." A promising young man with a promising career in front of him. But that was cut short Friday when, the Tennessee Highway Patrol says a truck driven by Billy Stafford collided with Mclaren's cruiser at this highway 31 intersection.
Mclaren was taken to Vanderbilt with a fractured leg but he developed complications following surgery to put pins in his leg and died suddenly Sunday afternoon. So far no charges related to the accident have been filed.
Spring Hill Sgt. Marcus Albright says, "We sort of felt like we got sucker punched when we weren't looking and that's sort of been hard for a lot of us to kind of accept." Albright says they've never dealt with anything like this before.
Visitation for Corporal McLaren will take place at the Williamson Memorial Funeral Home, 3009 Columbia Avenue in Franklin on Wednesday, 02/10/2010 from 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm, and again on Thursday, 02/11/2010, from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm.
Corporal McLaren's funeral service will be held at Brentwood Baptist Church, 7777 Concord Road, on Friday, 02/12/2010 at 11:00 am. Following the service, the procession will travel to Spring Hill where Corporal McLaren's body will be driven past the Spring Hill Police Department for one final time. The procession will then continue to the Spring Hill Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Pike, in Nashville.Police Department Devastated by Loss-Cindy Carter
