WZTV FOX17 :: CLASH ON THE CUMBERLAND: Jared Cook's Mom an Inspiration to Teammates
For one Titan, this game has special meaning. Jared Cook's mom will be the Titans' 12th man, or woman. Yulinda Cook survived breast cancer and she wants to share her victory with football fans across America. Each week, #89 is in a fight to win on the field, but Jared Cook knows it's his mom's fight off the field that trumps any big play.

"I feel that I am the poster child for this week for that fight and I just feel honored," says Yulinda Cook.

Yulinda scored a big victory in beating breast cancer 2 years ago, and the Titans will honor her as the 12th man. Instead of Pat Summit, it will be Yulinda Cook raising the Titans flag for an end to breast cancer.

"You have to be proactive," says Yulinda. "You have to check yourself every single day."

"She's a tough woman, man," says Jared. "She's amazing, just to see her go through it and seeing the steps she had to take and fight every stage of it. It was amazing to me."

The tight end also opened up about his mom's decision not to burden him with her diagnosis.

"It was in the summer of my junior year of South Carolina," says Jared. "One of my friends called me and she said how are you doing? I said I'm fine. She was like I was just calling to check on you. How's your mom doing? I said what do you mean how is my mom doing? She said your mom's surgery, how did it go? And I'm like what are you talking about?"

"I said I want you to focus on your studies and your games and everything you have to do in college because I'm going to be okay," says Yulinda.

"She's just selfless," says Jared.

"I believed that God was going to heal me and He did and here I am today," says Yulinda.

One other neat note about Yulinda: She continued working for the Social Security Administration throughout her treatment, and was even promoted while undergoing chemotherapy and radiation. Jared hosts events at his high school to raise money for breast cancer research.
