The unrest in Ukraine is touching a lot of lives including an athlete who used to play basketball for Middle Tennessee.  LaRon Dendy is now playing professionally in Ukraine, but that's on hold for now.  Dendy has been forced to flee the volatile area.

At the Murphy Center, the former Blue Raider is very much on the minds of the current players.  And head coach Kermit Davis is staying in close contact with Dendy during the crisis.

Dendy shared a photo of his family as they were set to fly out of Ukraine on Tuesday.  They looked relieved and it's easy to understand why.

"When you start getting troops coming into the country," says Kermit Davis, "And getting into the airport locations and so it is, it's a tough thing especially when you're a guy like LaRon and you got your son and your family over there so we were all worried about him quite a bit."

In a message to family and friends, Dendy wrote, "I have witnessed Ukrainians protesting in the streets, people taking their entire savings out of banks, and we were told several days and nights not to go outside and stay in our home for safety.  Many practices were canceled, each day it's getting worse and worse.  Games have been canceled, home and away, due to the violence.  The people of Ukraine are fighting for a better day.... The "American Dream" I am blessed to return home to."

Dendy's travels took him from Ukraine to Newark, New Jersey, then on to South Carolina where he'll finally be home.
