RAW NEWS: Preds GM Poile meets with media, says vision impaired

Updated: Saturday, February 22 2014, 12:20 AM CST
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The general manager of the U.S. hockey team and the Nashville Predators says the errant puck to the face two weeks ago has left him unable to see out of his right eye.

David Poile, who wore an eye patch, spoke briefly with reporters Thursday for the first time since being hit Feb. 6 during a pregame skate in Minnesota.

Poile says the puck broke his nose in three places and cracked the orbital bone above and below his right eye. Poile says he needed 40 stitches above the eye. He had a third surgery on Feb. 14.

The general manager was standing in the tunnel behind the bench when hit by the puck. The injury prevented Poile from attending the Sochi Olympics.

Doctors remain hopeful some vision may return.
