Titans All Access - WZTV FOX 17 - Fantasy Football Draft 2014: Denver Broncos
Fantasy Football Draft 2014: Denver Broncos
Petyton Manning, QB: The only debate about Manning seems to be if he's worthy of the number one pick or not. I've had the debate with several fantasy writers and enthusiasts. While it all boils down to which position you value most, statistically, there shouldn't even be a debate. Manning's 409 fantasy points was 43 more than Drew Brees and 100 points more than Jamaal Charles. While Eric Decker and Knowshon Moreno are now on other teams, the Broncos got younger and better. Emmanuel Sanders offers much more upside than Decker and Montee Ball averaged over five yards per carry down the stretch last season.

Will Manning top his 55 touchdowns last season? Probably not given he faces a much tougher schedule this year which ranks as the 22nd toughest among quarterbacks. But, this is Peyton Manning and he has serious weapons at his disposal. Manning, Brees and Newton are the only three players to finish in the top five of all players in fantasy land the last two seasons. Newton lost Steve Smith and Brees lost Sproles, who accounted for 1,271 yards and 9 touchdowns receiving the last two years.

Emmanuel Sanders, WR: Sanders posted 740 yards and six scores last season with a struggling Ben Roethlisberger. Now he lands in Denver and Manning has uttered his name several times throughout training camp and though the two still have chemistry to work out, Sanders has the most upside among any player you can select as your #3 wideout.

Julius Thomas, TE: Unless Manning does indeed throw another 55 touchdowns this season, someone on the Broncos is going to see a slight drop in scoring production. That guy should be Julius Thomas. While you would think the opposite should be true, only Rob Gronkowski has posted back-to-back seasons of double-digit touchdowns since 2011. Thomas' fantasy value is dependent upon his scoring and fewer scores is not a good thing. He only had four games of 50-plus yards in 2013. Plus, he caught at least one touchdown in 10 of 14 contests. Believe it or not, inside the 10 yard line, Thomas had just nine targets. All of those came in just four of his fourteen games.

Both Demaryius Thomas and Wes Welker were among the most targeted players in the redzone for the entire league. Even Eric Decker had more targets inside the 10 yard line, notching 20 targets. Unless Emmanuel Sanders becomes a ghost, odds are Thomas will not live up to his 2013 touchdown total. That said, he's still going to be among the top five tight ends this year. He's currently going in the late third, early fourth round of drafts, which is too high given the odds of another double-digit touchdown total are against him.

Demaryius Thomas & Wes Welker, WR: Thomas will again be an elite wideout and Welker a high-end #2. They were each in the top five of most-targeted wideouts in the redzone in all the league and that won't change this year.

Montee Ball, RB: Ball is expected to be ready for Week 1, but he underwent an appendectomy on August 4th. It's possible he won't see any preseason action, but he will still be the lead back when he returns to action. That said, Ball's ADP of 13th overall could drop. It was too high to begin with and he will still be drafted too high even if he drops to the third round. The fantasy world is in love with the idea Ball will simply take over for Knowshon Moreno and wind up being fantasy's 5th rated running back like Moreno was in 2013. If things were only so easy. Moreno was a seasoned veteran, Ball is entering his second year. Moreno has 845 career touches and Ball has just 120. Because a player has the opportunity to produce doesn't mean he will produce. Ball hasn't proven he's a #1 running back and fantasy owners would be smart to play it conservative and select him as a low-end #2 back with upside.
