NASHVILLE, Tn.-- The Tennessee Titans enter Sunday's game against the 49ers with a 3-3 record and hopes of heading into the bye week with another win under their belts.
Such hopes are not out of reach. The Titans traveled to Seattle last week and gave the Seahawks one of the tougher battles they've had this season. Now, the Titans return home for a "Code Blue" game against another NFC West opponent.
Although the 49ers are coming off a Super Bowl season, they have not been as dominant as expected. The loss of Michael Crabtree has this passing offense ranked 31st in the league and a normally stout defense is ranked 20th against the run.
For the Titans, they are wrapping up one of the toughest schedule stretches a team could face. The Kansas City Chiefs, Seahawks and 49ers have a combined record of 15-3 this year. Both the Chiefs and Seattle sit atop their division and the Niners are second only to Seattle in the NFC West chase.
This week could prove critical in the long-run. A win against the 49ers would give the Titans a 4-3 record heading into the bye week. Their AFC South rival, the Indianapolis Colts, will square off against an undefeated Denver Broncos team in Peyton Manning's return to Indy on Sunday. If the Colts lose and Titans win, it would tie them for the division lead and make the two upcoming games against the Colts an important factor in deciding their playoff fates.
Sunday's game could be a turning point for the Titans. The organization chose a perfect game to order a CODE BLUE and call for fan support.
