Christmas Carol Lyrics Altered for Hallmark Ornament

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Hallmark is regretting a change they made to the lyrics of a Christmas favorite.
The greeting card giant is getting flack for an ornament that resembles a tacky holiday sweater with altered lyrics to the popular carol, "Deck the Halls." They removed the word "gay" in the line "Don we now our gay apparel," and replaced it with "fun."
Critics on social media accused Hallmark of making a political statement.
The multiple meanings attached to the word "gay" meant the ornament would be "open to misinterpretation, according to Hallmark. The company says it is surprised by the reaction, but realized they shouldn't have changed the wording.
