JOHANNESBURG-- New developments for a bizarre story out of South Africa.

The sign language interpreter from Nelson Mandela's memorial who people have been calling a fake-- says there's a reason his signing wasn't correct. Thursday morning in an interview with Cape Times, the man blames his schizophrenia for his muddled signing.

After the memorial South Africa's deaf community cried foul-- saying the man was  just making up hand signals that didn't mean anything at all.

But he now says during the ceremony he lost concentration and began hearing voices and hallucinating. He apologized and says he tried to control himself.

He now fears people will think he's making the excuse up.
