Even with blood coming out of his hand, Andre Ellis is able to laugh. Just minutes before the truck driver thought his life might end. Just after 5:30am this morning, 3 semi's were traveling close together on I65 just after exit 6 in Franklin, Kentucky. One semi lost control on a piece of ice and crashed into the others. The result was sudden shutdown of the interstate. The next vehicle behind them was Ellis and his 18 wheeler, loaded up with 42,000lbs. of rear bumper parts. Without warning, he came face to face with the idle big rigs. Instead, Ellis steered his truck down a grassy hill and onto an entrance ramp. FOX17's Justin McFarland and his photographer were close by when the crash happened.

We heard the boom, wasn't sure what it was and when we turned around that's what we saw. Ellis walked up to us during our LIVE report. Several people were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries. The clean up took hours, but it will take more than time for Ellis to forget the moment that took him by surprise. I65 North was closed for 3 hours. The Simpson County Sheriff says that accident is an important lesson to drivers on how quickly bridges and overpasses can ice up.
