Rescued Sochi Dogs in U.S.

Stream WZTV Fox 17 Newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5am and News at 9pm.

Right now, two stray dogs rescued at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia are now making a new home in the United States.

Blues Captain David Backes and his wife say the two dogs they rescued just kept showing up at their hotel in Sochi and wouldn't leave.

So, they went through a lot of red tape to get the dogs out of Russia and home to St. Louis.

The Backeses are animal lovers. In fact they run a foundation called Athletes for Animals. Backes says all the stray animals in Sochi and the amount that were reportedly killed or euthanized, touched him.

The dogs are now in an animal shelter where they will stay for 30 days to make sure they are healthy and then they will be adopted.

Meanwhile, slopestyle skiing olympian, Gus Kenworthy, is also trying to get four puppies and a momma dog home to the U.S. He has postponed his trip home so he can get all the necessary paperwork together to bring them back.
