Richmond, VA--

Friends and family are remembering a teenager who suddenly died after finishing her first half-marathon on Sunday.

16-year-old Cameron Gallagher had just crossed the finish line when she collapsed. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors tried everything to revive her, but ultimately couldn't.

Gallagher had recently decided to take on running as a new challenge after winning awards as a competitive swimmer. She and her best friend had spent weeks training for the marathon and she seemed prepared.

Gallagher's dad says she was still full of energy at mile three, but by mile 10 she looked noticeably exhausted.

Her parent's say she was grinning ear-to-ear as she crossed the finish line and that's something they will never forget.

While the cause of death has not been released, Gallagher's dad says he believes it was cardiac arrest.
