Homeless Hiding In Trees

Stream WZTV Fox 17 Newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5am and News at 9pm.

In a move to keep themselves safe and out of overcrowded jails, homeless people are living in trees around one city.

But that might not last much longer.

Honolulu's homeless say it's impossible to live on the streets any longer.

They claim they're constantly getting kicked around by police, and fined for money they don't have.

So some have begun building tree houses in the area.

As high as 30 feet off the ground.

And now Hawaii's Department of Transportation is looking to kick them out of these too.

It says the trees are on state land and were built illegaly without a permit.

The agency says it's working with social service providers to try and help these people find shelter.
