Plane Crash at Nashville International Went Undiscovered for Hours - John Dunn

UPDATE: Fox 17 News just confirmed the name of the pilot killed in Tuesday's crash of a small airplane in Nashville. The Davidson County medical examiner's office says Michael Callan dead in the accident at the Nashville International Airport. The ME's office has not released the cause of death. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating what caused the accident.

UPDATE: The crash at Nashville International Airport today, which took the life of the pilot, occurred sometime after three in the morning, but wasn't discovered until approximately nine in the morning.  The wreckage was reported by another pilot on the airfield. The airport was surrounded by thick fog overnight.  The plane crashed while landing.

The plane was affiliated with the Windsor Flying Club in Canada. The Flying Club did not want to comment when reached by Fox 17 News.

In an official statement from the Metro Nashville Airport Authority, the aircraft was described as a Cessna-172 single engine aircraft. The accident accurred on Runway 2 Center, which has been closed as the investigation takes place. No delays have been reported. 

The NTSB has sent an investigator to Nashville to learn more about the crash. The NTSB has not been able to determine if the pilot filed a flight plan. The pilot's name has not been released.

ORIGINAL STORY: Emergency and fire crews are headed to Nashville International Airport for a plane crash.
Just before 9am a single engine plane crashed.
There are injuries and one confirmed death.
It happened off of McGavock Pike and Murfreesboro Road.
It's unclear if plane was taking off or landing.
We have a crew on the scene gathering more details.
Flights in and out of the airport are not impacted.
There was thick fog in the area at the time.
