Nevada boy says he came face-to-face with shooter

SPARKS, Nevada - Tonight we have new information about that deadly school shooting in Nevada. CNN's Shannon Travis has a timeline of yesterday's events and more about the teacher who was killed.

A 7th grader terrorized his middle school in Sparks, Nevada.

Police offered new details about the crime.

They say the 12 year old brought a 9mm semi-automatic handgun from home to school and opened fire. Teacher Michael Landsberry saw the student on the playground and tried to get him to put the gun down. Instead, the boy pulled the trigger, killing Landsberry, then turning the weapon on himself.

According to his brother, Michael Landsberry served in the military for 22 years, completing several tours of duty in Afghanistan. 2 other students were wounded in the incident. They're in stable condition. Investigators are trying to piece together why the boy brought the gun to school. The ordeal lasted just a few minutes, but for the town of Sparks, Nevada the healing will take much longer.

Sparks Middle School will be closed for the week. Michael Landsberry leaves behind a wife and 2 step-daughters.
