What's in a Middle Name When it Comes to Your Credit?

Stream Fox 17 newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5 am and News at 9 pm.

A warning this morning, could your middle name be hurting your credit?
Some credit reporting agencies say yes. They say bad credit from others could be reported as yours.
For example, a woman by the name Mary Anne Smith may get married and move into a home she co-owns with her husband and now she's Mary Jones. The credit reporting bureau may not recognize that both names belong to the same person.
To protect yourself, make sure your name change is updated with your creditors. Always confirm your name is correct on your credit reports, especially if you go by your middle name.
If you have any loans or credit cards issued with variations of your name or if you've changed your name, tell the credit company. Also, check all your existing accounts and monitor your credit score.
