CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- Chattanooga fire officials say a local hospital has treated nine people after an explosion and fire at a foundry, and one of those injured has been transferred to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville for treatment of burns.

The explosion happened around 7:30 a.m. EDT Friday at Designed Alloy Products.   Three workers were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, and three others were taken to a hospital. Fire officials said later that Erlanger Health System officials reported seven more patients went to the emergency room. All were expected to be released Friday except the one who was transferred.

No names were released, and Vanderbilt would not provide a condition report without the patient's name.Fire officials said the cause of the explosion remains under investigation. The fire department said the company is a scrap recycler.
