NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A man endangered hundreds of occupants of a downtown condo when he allegedly set a tree touching the building on fire.

Mark Mitchell, 40, faces a charge of aggravated arson after a Metro police officer witnessed him set a tree in an area of wooded mulch at James Robertson Parkway and Gay Street on fire at around 11 p.m. Sunday, according to the police affidavit obtained by FOX 17 News. The area set on fire is outside the Capitol Towers condos and parking garage.

According to the police report, Mitchell admits to pouring the liquid out and set it on fire in order to "see" if the liquid was gasoline. He also says that he copes with the loss of a loved one by setting things on fire, according to the report.

Mitchell is in the Davidson County Jail on $80,000.
