Unique Program Helps Veterans Express Themselves Through Music

Stream Fox 17 newscasts LIVE starting with TN Mornings at 5 am and News at 9 pm.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members Lynyrd Skynyrd are paying homage to veterans tonight. They've teamed up with Gibson for a special auction to benefit a nonprofit called Guitars for Vets. Lynyrd Skynyrd took the stage for a concert, but earlier they threw a big pre-show party in the Ryman plaza. A kick off to the brand new Nashville chapter of Guitars for Vets, as well as a chance for people to see the guitars they can go online and bid on. No one knows the healing power of music more than Markus Fox. Fox is a combat veteran that now calls the road his home. He travels from city to city as both a musician and ambassador for Guitars for Vets. The nonprofit held the Ryman plaza party before the Lynyrd Skynyrd concert to launch Nashville as their newest chapter. In addition to awareness Guitars for Vets held a silent auction. Numerous guitars were donated by Gibson, but there were 2 in particular that people really had their eye on: a Gibson signed by Charlie Daniels and a white Les Paul studio signed by Skynyrd which were auctioned and then presented during the show.

Since the program started in 2007, Guitars for Vets has put the power of music into the hands of over 2000 heroes.

Therapy Markus Fox says is priceless.
