MURFREESBORO, TN - More controversy at the Murfreesboro mosque.
An event giving a voice to religious teachings was met with silent protestors.
The message about interpreting scripture wasn't what was opposed.
The controversy came with who delivered it.

It's Dr. Jamal Badawi on a panel with three others-- two christian scholars and a rabbi-- that's raising concern in Rutherford County.

The Islamic Center of Murfreesboro is a packed house of worship Sunday for an academic forum called God's Books which focuses on three teachings-- Islam, Christianity and Hebrew.

The protestors hold signs outside against the presence of Dr. Badawi.

They claim the former Canadian professor has ties to terrorism and radical Islam through the Muslim American Society which he co-founded though the US Attorney's office tells Fox 17 there are no alarms raised concerning Badawi by any law enforcement agency.

Members of the mosque bring water and cookies to the protestors saying on several occasions, they've met to clear misunderstandings... With no success.

Lee Douglas, a protestor with the 9/12 Project, says he's taking a stand to inform others of his beliefs.

Badawi himself gives an open invitation for direct communication.

He also says copies of his literature are available online.
