Restaurant in The Gulch Has Close Call with Grease Fire

Stream Fox 17 newscasts LIVE starting with TN Mornings at 5 am and News at 9 pm.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A country kitchen restaurant in The Gulch caught a break when a fire call went out there early this morning.

A passerby noticed smoke inside Arnold's at 605 8th Avenue South at around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday and called 911. The Nashville Fire Department says the cause is a grease fryer left on.

The fire department made forced entry and removed the fryer and smoldering pots before any damage to the building could be done. The fire official acknowledged that this could have been a big building fire.

The restaurant will open at 10:30 a.m., says a restaurant employee, despite the minor smoke damage.
