Proposed Constitutional Amendment Would Give Lawmakers Authority to Regulate, Restrict Abortions

Stream Fox 17 newscasts LIVE starting with TN Mornings at 5 am and News at 9 pm.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - One year from now, Tennesseans will vote on a controversial Bill known as Amendment 1. The proposed Constitutional Amendment would give lawmakers the authority to regulate and restrict abortions. Supporters are bringing in heavy hitters for the cause, including Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, the parents of the Duggar family from the show "19 Kids and Counting". The preparation in advance over Amendment 1 comes as, just Friday, one of the nation's most restrictive abortion laws went into effect in Texas. FOX17 reached out to opponents of Amendment 1. Planned Parenthood of Middle Tennessee did send us this statement in response:

"In the end, this is for Tennesseans to decide. When they do, they will vote "no" on Amendment 1 and will defeat this attack on Constitutionally guaranteed privacy rights."
