EAST NASHVILLE, Tenn.--Some small businesses are getting a head start on Small Business Saturday and providing an alternative to the big-box retail shopping.

Many people flocked to the third annual Five Points Friday in East Nashville.

Organizer, Courtney McCarley says, " It's a collaborative way to get people to really see all the great and wonderful shops here in East Nashville."

Hip Zipper vintage clothing store manager, JJ Dirienzo says this morning was packed before she even opened the store.

Dirienzo explained, "There were already people waiting outside and we had a huge rush of people and it was super great to see that many people out and shopping at the small businesses."

The perk to shopping in East Nashville? Business owners say you will find gifts you normally would not discover at the mall.

East Nashville shopper, Kimberly Clo said, "I think it's very important to support the artists  that live here and the people who have taken a risk to start a dream, to start their own small business."

The appeal for Five Points Friday stretched miles beyond the district in East Nashville, even to Fond Objects Record store on McGavock Pike.

Fond Object co-owner, Jeff Pettit says, "This is our first Black Friday technically because we've only been open since April, but yeah today's been great and hopefully tomorrow will continue."

Five Points Friday wrapped up tonight with The Inaugural East Nasty: Turkey Shoot and Food Drive. Donations were given to the Martha O'bryen Center.
