Police Work to Keep Local Park from Becoming Breeding Ground for Illicit Sex

HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. - A warning for parents. Hendersonville Police say a popular park where kids play is becoming a breeding ground for anonymous sex. It's now becoming well known in online circles and police say it's happening in broad daylight. FOX17's Eric Alvarez says the problem could soon be getting worse. Hendersonville Police say as the weather gets colder, less families will go to the park. Less people could mean more opportunities for anonymous sex in a very public place. Rockland Recreational Area. By day, you see ducks, boaters, fishermen and families. Lately, Rockland Park is drawing a new crowd.

At Rockland after dark, cars are stopped together near the public bathrooms. 2 cars we saw were parked side by side. When we approached, both drivers sped off, even though the park was still open. A simple Google search shows a number of sites recommending the park as a place to hook up. That's why police have stepped up efforts to patrol the park.

Police say this isn't just a concern after dark. In fact, they say it can happen at all hours of the day. People like Jake, who did not want to show his face, brings his son to the park every week. Dan Galysh comes to Rockland to fish. He says he hasn't seen anyone having sex in the park, but he has seen an increased police presence. Sex in a public place can lead to a charge of Indecent Exposure.

Police say there's not a lot they can do about the online image of the park, only crack down when they see it.
