NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A mother is in the Davidson County Jail this morning after leaving her child unattended in a below freezing car in north Nashville last night for at least two hours.

A passerby informed Metro Police officers that he noticed a small child alone in a pickup truck at the Walmart at 3458 Dickerson Pike on Monday for 45 minutes, according to the affidavit.

It was 30 degrees outside when police arrived to find a little girl with a soiled diaper in the back seat of the truck in the parking lot. The girl, who police say didn't have a coat and was cold to the touch, was taken into the store to get warm.

A woman arrived after police say they were there for about an hour and 15 minutes. At first, she said it wasn't her truck, but finally admitted it.

Police took the girl's mother, 24-year-old Mercedes Sevier, into custody for aggravated child endangerment. Her bond is $10,000.
