MTSU Women's Basketball Player Nominated for National Recognition

Stream Fox 17 newscasts LIVE starting with TN Mornings at 5 am and News at 9 pm.

MURFREESBORO- A MTSU women's basketball player is up for a national recognition and it has nothing to do with her talent on the court. Janiece Johnson was nominated for the national Womens Basketball Coaches Association's "Allstate Good Works Team". Johnson grew up homeless in the tough inner city of Washington D.C. The college senior now devotes her spare time volunteering in the community. Johnson mentors children, feeds the homeless, and spends time with the elderly. Johnson is among 85-other finalists throughout the country. In April a coaching committee will invite ten of those players to Nashville to take part in a service project during the Women's Final Four tournament. Johnson will find out in February if she made the cut.
