Stream Fox 17 newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5 am and News at 9 pm.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Bizarre phone calls and threats against a Midstate sheriff have a former attorney facing charges. Police are looking for David Goad after they say he called 911 about 20 times on Saturday night. Officers say he threatened Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold.

Murfreesboro's 911 center gets plenty of calls, but on Saturday night police say the calls became concerning. Officers believe former attorney David Goad called about 20 times. "The conversations ranged from everything from weapons of mass destruction, to claims that he was in fact the son of God," says Kyle Evans with the Murfreesboro Police Department.

Police say the calls turned personal when Goad allegedly threatened Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold. "I have no idea why he wants to threaten me, other than from just me being in my position," says Sheriff Arnold.

Sheriff Arnold says he has never met David Goad. He does not know why he may have told dispatchers that the Sheriff should "duck...I know where he lives." The Sheriff says extra patrols have now been added near his home. "I became a lot more aware of things because of the safety of my wife and children," says Sheriff Arnold.

FOX 17 News tried to reach Goad, but he no longer lives at the address listed on police reports. We have learned that Goad had his law license inactivated in 2005 because of medical reasons. Police tell us he has a criminal history and may have mental problems. "Everything from simple assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.  We've confiscated guns, knives, and ammunition from him before," says Kyle Evans.

Sheriff Arnold says he is taking action to protect his family and officers are looking for Goad. They say they want to make sure he doesn't act on his threats. "He continues to be on our radar, making these type of threats, these type of statements," says Evans.

Murfreesboro Police have taken out a warrant against David Goad charging him with harassment. We are told he may be staying in another county.
