NASHVILLE, Tenn. - In Metro, school administrators say they weighed the options of cancelling school vs. an early dismissal. Parents started lining up hours ahead of schedule to pick up their children.

Eakin Elementary is one of dozens of Metro schools dismissing 2 hours early to avoid the winter weather.

Some parents suggested it might have been easier to cancel school altogether, but most were okay with the shortened schedule.

School administrators say they decided to hold classes after speaking with the National Weather Service and Emergency Management. It was a scramble and the weather was messy, but most parents believe Metro Schools made the right decision. Metro Schools says the half day schedule also allowed the district to provide breakfast and lunch for students who depend on hot meals at school.
