Stream Fox 17 newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5 am and News at 9 pm.

NASHVILLE, Tenn.-- Students at Martin Luther King Magnet School had the chance to hold and examine a real human heart.

The unique lesson was initiated by Dr. Tina Bozeman, a teacher at MLK. In addition to certifying all of her students in CPR, Bozeman's class also invites Dr. Joey V. Barnett of Vanderbilt University to teach the annual lesson on human hearts. Students are able to see how a healthy heart looks and feels versus an unhealthy heart damaged by heart disease, high blood pressure, smoking and other health issues.

Cardiovascular disease is the top killer of Americans, claiming more lives than all forms of cancer combined. 80% of cardiovascular is considered preventable through healthier lifestyle choices which start at a young age.
